Just a quick question...

Im not that experienced in creating circuits, but its my understanding that as far as circuits that utilize a transistor/mosfet need something to drive there gate?

IC are pretty much miniature circuits, so why not have a miniature circuit that consists of a gate driver/mosfet or transistor with all the inputs and controls one would have making it on a pc board.

Sum= IC chip+all outside parts to drive the chip+mosfet=one package

Not really...

I made a circuit using a FPS, was terrible, although I blew one, still got it working, it's no better than a 2n3055 driver...

As the circuit still relies on core saturation with the feedback winding....

I was talking about having the idea to do that?

Im not sure who invented the combined package but they were probably a lot older.

Are these devices available to experiment with, and does anyone know the
small quantity cost?

You probably don't want one. Look at the RdsOn.

I guess it depends on the application, for low power and small form factor stuff it would not be a problem but as this is 4hv I am guessing driving a lopt would be the application so not suitable.

I remeber I made a flyback driver from mains, pulsed output, using a multiplier, with small 250v MKP caps, about 2kv output fed into one of the different pins on a flyback (not primary, not sure what it was, seemed to be the flybacks internal capacitor) and 20-30~kv out...
