Typically, I would power a microprocessor circuit with something like the 5V 7805 voltage regulator. I would also decouple the inputs and the outputs with 0.1uF caps. I also put a 22uF tank cap for filtration.
Well, my most recent project is a flyback converter. Works great, but I notice when it starts charging, I get a jitter and some flashing on some LEDs off the microchip. I need to add a zener on the regulator in case I pump to much voltage back into the circuit. But, I wonder if I am having a dip in current when the converter kicks on. What do you guys use as caps on your IC circuits? Im thinking maybe I need somethin bigger so I have more room for spikes and reserves.

The common return for the LEDs should be looked at to see if it shares a 'soft' ground return path. Apart from the flickering of the LEDs, does the processor execute properly?
