Hey all; been a while since I've posted anything noteworthy here!

Basically, I've been charged with making a ZVS for a friend of mine, and making it well to run off of 36 volts.

Problem is, although the actual ZVS looks fantastic physically, the actual electronics are acting weird, and I have a few questions regarding the components....

I'm using some 47n60 mosfets from Fairchild, which are way overkill for a ZVS driver but whatever. I know they're not the weak point.

Going further, I'm using 18 volt zeners, and 1 k ohm wirewound resistors.

Are wirewound resistors bad for ZVS drivers? I think the extra inductance or something along those lines messes it up. The actual problem is one of the mosfet's zener diodes consistently fails short. I can't for the life of me figure out why, and I've replaced it like 3 times and have since then given up.

Also noted, is that the capacitor leads to and from the flyback transformer are not symmetrical...one side has a good additional inch of leads to go compared to the other one.

Do I just need non-wirewound resistors, and possibly change the leads from the capacitor? It does/did work for a while, but then the zeners just decided to become suicidal.

I've also checked the mosfets, and they're fine.

Wirewound resistors are fine for the ZVS driver. You should probably decrease them though. I ran a simulation with IPW60R099CP MOSFETs and got this Link2 gate waveform. Your MOSFETs have about 3x the gate capacitance, so it'll be even worse.
As for the zeners blowing, maybe just parallel a few of them up? The only thing I can think of that could cause them to pop is not having ultrafast diodes between the gates and opposite drains.
You should have your cap connected right across the primary, because it's a tank circuit with large currents flowing.

What sort of series inductor are you using?

It's a yellow cored inductor with roughly... 15-18 turns of thick enameled wire on it... I'll have to look at it closer later.

You should definitely add more turns to it, assuming it's a t106-26 (1.06"OD 0.57"ID 0.437"Ht, yellow with white on the top/bottom).
