Can you use a rheostat on the DC input of a blocking oscillator inverter to adjust the AC output?

My last post rambled and the question point was lost, so I wanted to erase my post but don't know how. This is my main question restated more concisely. If a simple potentiometer, say a 25 watt Ohmite, could be between the 12v battery and an inverter to adjust 0-12vdc input and get 0-120vac output? This would help me have adjustability of my voltage charge and thus flashlamp joules stored in my capacitor bank. Also to give me a wide, smooth sweep what ohm rating would you recommend on the Ohmite? Thanks a million

Perhaps a 250 ohm rheostat on the output of the inverter would give you 0-120 volts.

What kind of inverter is it? I'm sure there's a way to adjust the output.

Hey thanks guys! Yeah I didn't think of that, maybe I should put the rheostat on the output 120 vac side! I don't know how the inverters would like having there 12vdc inputs being restricted in voltage and amperage :-/. There are actually going to be 9 inverters that are designed for lighting EL wire and they are potted in epoxy so no user serviceable adjustments unfortunately :-/. They can each support 25 meters of EL wire, and I read that the average draw of Electroluminescent wire is 2 milliamperes per meter... So I'm gonna series nine of them and use a 15K resistor to limit their output current to approx 60 milliamperes at a hopefully adjustable 0-900vdc and then rectify to charge my flashlamp pumped mini YAG laers's capacitor bank. I know there are easier ways to charge a capacitor bank but I'm pretty fixated on this way as its different and will look neat! (at least to me) LoL!
