Hi.. Has anyone heard of mounting LED lights on a bicycle wheel?
Reason is, in my box o'bits I have half a dozen LED strips and assorted cold cathodes from defunct panels which are nearly the same radius as the wheel. As the wheel spins the lights illuminate sequentially so that the road in front is lit but little or no light goes upwards.
Power options would be limited to induction charging, but as the strips use less than 30mA when running to get reasonable brightness this should be a non issue.

What about some sort of magnetic switch mounted on the main bike frame? so when the LED's go past it they light up for a brief period then go off again.

I've seen a nifty LED bike light that consists of a little pod mounted on the frame, and a neo magnet that fixes to a spoke. Every time the magnet goes past the pod, the LEDs blink from the induced voltage.
No reason you couldn't do the opposite, with some coils on your wheel and magnets on the frame.

Everyone, including myself seems to use these in Denmark:
But you need some large coils and a lot of magnets to get this to a generator magnitude where its becoming useful for lighting up the road. This lamps merely shows others that you are there, its like riding in pitch dark with them.
