I *cough* found *cough* a HV insulator, the type you get on pylons, what I want to ask is, wth does it do, I put a flyback on the two outs and it looked like a capacitor was charging?

It looks like a plain insulator of the kind found on 25kV railway overhead wires. It is just a solid lump of high-grade ceramic and it doesn't do anything exciting, its purpose is simply to give mechanical support without conducting electricity.

nice rescue form the garbage dump i presume, I agree with Connor, there nice to have to hold stuff up. You shoudnt really see any behavior from it, so im not sure what your question is...
we cant see the ends, so it could be an insulator or a pass-through bushing for a component case. can you ohm out the two ends and re-post pics?

If it is rigid, it would be a bus bar support from a substation.
One thing about old substations. Sometimes they appear abandoned and have a lot of vegetation growing. But they may still be energized , even though the factory or plant has been shut down for a long time.
