I was watching some weirdo causing some public safety hazard, so the police tazed him. he went stiff like a board, then fell face flat on the road way, flopped around like a fish outta water... it was all very funny to see someone in that much pain.
(mostly cause it wasnt me, lol!)

My question is: What kind of wire do they shoot out with those sharp little progs? are they insulated? seems like if they're in close contact they should deliver insignificant V and I. (yet clearly they work just fine.) is the device checking the line impedance for temporary shorts? or high impedance?

My guess would be simple enameled wire. You don't need that high voltage with the electrodes buried in the flesh. But IIRC the Thomas A Swift Electric Rifles have a two stage action, a primary high voltage that switches to a limited current if the voltage drops enough.

Insulation would have to be decent to prevent it shorting itself out, and fairly thin copper wire by itself is not very strong but then again perhaps it doesn’t need to be.

Poor guy though, in a curious way can’t help wondering what it must feel like getting zapped by one of those things.

Next time maybe you should ask them if you could have the old wire afterwards for your h.v. experiments.

Electrocution is always funny... as long as it doesn't happen to you and the victim doesn't get seriously injured. Tasers... LOL. I want one. But I'm about 74,700 volts short :P Most I can do is with a camera board... Oh well... SHOCK PENS O_O

before officers are qualified to carry a non-lethal (less lethal is more accurate) weapon they must be peppered or tased themselves, at least in the US.

Are you sure that's still the case? Last year our school officer came into our engineering physics class and did a demonstration on tasers and he said officers could volunteer to be shot with a taser but it wasn't mandatory

really?! thats bs, they oguht to be in that much pain, before they can draw a less lethatl weapon on another person.
