Hey,,

I am just wondering and I really need your help because
I am planning to build another DRSSTC, and This will be my specs:

SECONDARY:
6 inch diameter
24 inch height
30 awg wire
fres : ~100khz (torroid will just follow to meet low freq)

MMC:
.075uf

PRIMARY:
12 turns .25 copper tube

BRIDGE:
Half bridge of IRG4PC50UD igbts (600v @ 240Apk?)

IS this igbt capable of producing 5-6 ft arc in my specs? Also, the site Link2 > I am worrying for the dimension of my secondary. 1500 watts was indicated there in the chart, I am scared that my IGBT wont last and wont capable to drive such current to produce 5-6ft arcs.. thanks in advance.

Well why don't you build it and find out :P

Really though, the only way your going to know is to build it and find out for yourself not by having someone else tell you.

Your design looks good enough to go on and build it, but your expectations are dangerous and will severely disappoint you.
At 240Apeak you properly should expect up to 2 feet instead.

based on the information in the site Link2,

IRG4PC50UD igbts can produce atleast 5 ft.. and when I saw the datasheet of the IGBT, the Pulsed Current Collector rating is only 220 amperes. So is the 5ft arc with this IGBT true??

Thanks for your input.. Also, some of the coilers which also used this type of IGBT, can produce 4ft arc.. with their <2 ft secondaries..

Well it is obvious that I don't like to find it out for myself anymore, I have very limited resources here in my country =)and If someone has experienced using the same specs why wouldn't I listen and ask for their output? =) I only ask for some info and comments based on the posted specs but not question for why am I asking for it =)

Hmm I wonder how long that coil on the HVWiki lasted, pushing 5' of arc out of a poor little 50A transistor.
'tis no longer fashionable to push your H-bridge to destruction like it was back when DRSSTC's were young. Driving your transistors a little above their ratings gives nice results, and a good reliable coil.

are the IRG4PC50UD the only fets you have they will be to feeble for your efforts. you will have to pass about 500A for 300uS to get 5 ft sparks. you would need mini bricks like Dr. Isotop's avatar. you would have to just try something.

here is a thread that may give you some ideas
