Hi, I just got a hold of an old Neon Sign Transformer. Do the ceramic insulators come off? When I try to screw a nut onto the bolt on the secondary the bolt just spins. I would like to replace the bolts.

the insulators do unscrew from the can, but they're likely stuck due to the tar.
Most people bust them off with a hammer, only to find out later that they cannot buy them anywhere.
You may have to unpot the tar anyway to get to the leads. This can be done by heating the tar up and letting it get soft. I have used an open flame on the tar to melt it, but be careful, and don't set the transformer paper ablaze.
