Hi, I dismantled a small appliance universal motor with the intention of rewinding it. However the problem is that I don't know how the rotor coils were connected to the commutator. I know just where one end of one coil were, marked on the photos by an arrow on the armature and a black point on the commutator plate where it went.
See the attached pictures. The rotor armature has 8 parts and there are 16 plates on the commutator. There was a total of 16 coils on the armature, over every 3 parts of the armature there were 2 coils (hope that makes sense). There were around 88 turns on every of the 16 coils (the motor ran on 230 Vac). I searched the net and couldn't find any usable info. Any help is appreciated

Thank you, I just found the same tutorial on a different webpage. I'll get more motors to experiment on, before rewinding them I'll try to observe the winding pattern (not so easy because it's usually not evident which wire goes where).

Motor rewinding is done two ways. First, use the manufacturers winding plan. However, only the largest motors have such plans made available, on a private basis to certain shops.
The next method is to take data from the motor that is to be rewound.
Wire size, insulation type if you can find that out.
Number of turns in each coil, and precise information on how they are connected, of which direction of wind is critical.
You find this data by unwinding the motor and making a diagram.
Some types of armature windings. Simplex progressive, simplex retrogressive, wave winding.....
