All I can say is, wow, those arcs are very nice.

They would be fantastic in a Jacob's Ladder.

Are you going to post a schematic of this, or are you planning on keeping it a secret? ;o

pumped power ferrite add do not kill SCR Half-bridge inverter
at a frequency of 7kHz - 10kW
at a frequency of 15kHz - 23kW
at a frequency of 50kHz - 80kW
at a frequency of 65kHz - 100kW

scheme will publish later:-D
need to finish the scheme

Excellent! smile

Can you please explain how the inverter works with only one SCR? How does the SCR turn off once it's been fired?

Hi Steve8-)
single-ended converter
Link2
when the direction of current in the coil on the opposite, the thyristor is closed before the next pulse:-)

Zillipoper - OMG... the secondary on that transformer looks homemade as well? :O

How much power does the thing draw while making a 20cm arc? I would think you're overdriving the ferrite so much it would cook in seconds.

And if you really intend on constructing a HV transformer out of all that ferrite, where will you get 100kW+ required to drive it? O_O

Funny, I've got some big SCR modules too and wasn't even sure what to do with it. I was discussing with Steve about the possibility of wiring one in a series resonant circuit with a MOT at few hundred Hz so the thyristors get naturally commutated. Some current control scheme would be mandatory though to prevent the thing from blowing up :)

hi Marko :8-)
Power arc 1500-2000W
secondary coil Russian flyback transformer cheesey
ferrite cold, secondary cold, SCR cold suprised suprised
ballast roasted cheesey cheesey

I will do 10kW SCR inverter 7- 10kHz

later try to construct SCR DRSSTC:-D resonant frequency 20-40kHz
