After using my induction heater I came to realize I would like to know the temperature of the workpiece. I designed an iPhone app called Thermal Light that uses the black body radiation signature of iron and steel to give the temperature. I have a calibrated range between 1000-2700F. I have not tried it, yet, but this this may also work with glowing ceramics.

I am putting this here because I think many will find it useful for their induction heaters. I have to say that the IR meter that I used to develop this with cost a good deal of money. They cost between 400-900 dDollars, so I have a charge to cover the costs. It is much cheaPer to convert he phone than buy your own.

LOL that is pretty cool! but how did you convert the IPhone? I've heard rumors of just a plain downloadable IPhone taser but I know that isn't possible without ordering an extra thing. But how do you get it to detect the temperature, using just what they have? Or I should rather be asking, what is an induction heater and do iphones have them?

What an ingenious idea! I guess the next step for this app would be to input the black body radiation color for a few different materials other than iron.

I have thought about copper and aluminum. Right now I can set stable temperature controls for calibration with my induction heater, which I plan to sell soon to a person for forging. I am not able to heat non-metallic materials, unless they are heated indirectly from the hot metal.

I have started to use my fireplace again, so maybe I can try it there, and see how hot I can record the flames and logs. I can then check this against my IR meter.
