I found two 12v - 17.5A max power supplies, and I am planning on converting them into small desktop power supplies.

The PSU has a single 18 pin connector, with everything labelled.
I dont want to just go shorting logic pins, so I was wondering if anyone can help with the logic pin outs.

There labelled: PS_PRESENT , PS_EN , DC_GOOD , DC_STATUS_LED , SCL , CGND , and SDA
The remaining pins are just the 12 out and 12v return.

Ive had experience with ATX power supplies, and a bit of luck with some other larger server power supplies, but i dont want to go shorting random logic pins to get it to power up.
Can anyone explain which pins need which signals?

Thanks, Nic

(edit)

Sorry, i got impatient. The PS_PRESENT connected to the DC_GOOD pin turned the psu on.
Both are up and running under load with no problems

That psu will need some serial communications on the SDA and SCL pins to start.

you can check the SCL and SCA to see what's going out, maybe it's a monitoring with some useful information like current, voltage, and PFC data...

PSU can only handle a very small load.

The SDA and SCL pins a show a voltage of 3.3 for the SDA and 2.8 for the SCL (positive lead of multimeter connected to CGND, with negative to SCL and SDA).

Experimentonomen, the PSU starts with PS present connected to DC good. It can only supply very small currents. By serial communications on the SDA and SCL pins, do you mean connecting these to the 12v or 0v rails to monitor current and voltage like Shrad suggested?

Thanks for the help

No, serial communication is a method of talking to other digital devices (like the computer). It isn't a simple analogue voltage, it's a serial of digital signal, 1's and 0's. Google I2C to find out more. It looks like the PSU will indeed need to be turned on over the serial lines in order to output full power.
