Hi everyone,
I have a really powerful red LED which takes in 8 to 10A at 2.2V. I need some suggestions for the best way to make a small power supply for it. I happen to have an ATX PSU around so I can use it. Does anyone have better suggestions than simply sticking a big resistor in series? Or maybe convert a 12V 5A supply to 2.2V at higher current?
Thanks!

You might be able to use the 3.3 voltage off of the ATX. my next guess would be to wind your own buck converter.

Only switching power supplies are moddable without just adding a resistor to burn the excess voltage ... small plug type switching power supplies do exist (something like this) but I've never seen the inside of one ... dunno if they are easy to mod.
A buck converter is reasonably simple though, you could just add that to an ordinary power supply.
