The aforementioned have contributed financially to the continuing triumph of 4hv.org. They are deserving of my most heartfelt thanks.
i am looking to build a multi stage gun and was just wondering about capacitors i have some experience with them but now searching for higher output ones i keep running into stuff like this what type of capacitors should i be using? and how do i go about building a multistage gun i.e. after i get the first shot to fire how do i signal the secondary coil to fire in time? and can anyone recomend any good psu's to use for the project? i know there was a lot but basic answers would help me very much. Thanks in advance and sorry if you have trouble understanding but id happily clarify anything.

I don't know too much about coilguns, but I will tell you that cap will not work. You want a cap that is around 200-400 volts, in the uF range, not the farad range. That cap has too much ESR (effective series resistance) to really be useable in a coilgun.

Yes, a 4000 uF 400 volt capacitor would work. 320 joules should be enough to get you started. :)
If you ever crave more power, you'll need to increase the voltage, or add more capacitance. Either one is achieved by putting more of the same caps in either parallel, or series.
others ive run into are soo expensive.. i found this would you recommend any retailers? oh and Thank you so much ! and i really am enjoying your resonant duck...

if your located in UK i may be able to help ive got quite a few capacitors i havent got round to using 22 capacitors (some 450v @ 3300uf and some at 400v @ 4700uf) they have very low ESR pm me if you are interested
unfortunately im in the united states, i dont know if it would be worth it with the cost of shipping where it is but ill check how much it would cost and pm you thanks a lot !
