Hi everyone, I recently build a standard 2N3055 flyback driver, such as the one shown on the Wiki. If I leave the battery connected, the sparks eventually fade down to nothing. I have to disconnect it and wait for several minutes before I can see them again. What is causing this, and how can I fix it?
I think it may have something to do with the battery being drained, or the transistor itself. But neither seem to get very warm at all.

Dry cells which are discharged too fast will quickly fail due to the build up of internal resistance. Such a battery can partially recover if it is allowed to rest for a while.
Remedy: use a battery with a larger capacity, and higher maximum discharge current rating.

Use a 12v lead acid battery. I encountered this problem when using alkaline battery's. I then got a 12V 7ah lead acid battery and it works much better.
