As many of you know, I have been working on various designs of plasma speakers since early this year. I have finally found a design I really like. This is a work in progress and I will update this thread as time goes on.

I finished the modulation circuit: pics below, I apologize because some of them are blurry as I was in an awkward place to take pictures.

Complete set up: Link2
Outputs 1 and 2 from the TL494: Link2
Everything connected: Link2
Just the boards: Link2

I would like to personally thank Dr. Kilovolt, 2many, and Magnet18 for all the help they have given me. But of course, a big thanks to everyone who keeps this forum interesting and is willing to lend a hand

In the picture they were connected to the Oscilloscope. When it's finished, each output will be connected to a Mosfet driver board which will be connected to a separate transformer, probably homemade so the transformers produce identical arcs.

Any progress since you posted your first photographs? I have always wanted to make a small plasma speaker but have never found a good circuit or flyback that I felt suitable. If you do end up winding your own HV transformers I would really like to see how it goes.

Actually....you can use a 555 timer and some UCC2733x chips as drivers + a GDT for a plasma speaker. It works really well.

I have started on the driver, I am using UCC37322 Mosfet drivers and a GDT like induktion said. I wouldn't use a 555 as I have found them unreliable at best and a TL494 is just as easy to use. I will update the post when the boards are done.

I have found a few suitable flybacks but the ones I have used in the past can't really handle anything above 18v and thus the arc size is limited to a very thin 3cm, I want an arc that's a bit longer and thicker; as a thin arc tends to move around a lot.

Ah I will replace the blurry pictures in the next update. And yes there will be a video!
