Pretty neat stuff.
I am thinking about this, and is there any reason why you couldn't use an array of these implanted in the major blood vessels leading to the brain with integrated micropumps as a way to keep someone's brain alive in the event of an accident ?
This could be very useful for organ transplants as well, as the devices are compact enough to fit into relatively small vessels so a simple micro pump to move glucose and a suitable oxygen carrier around would be needed rather than the complicated gas exchange system which has caused so many problems.
Only major headache here is the hydrogen but there are numerous ways to deal with this.

We can already keep brains alive. It was either the Russians or Nazis that did this to dogs. The dog heads were responsive to stimuly and the eyes would follow you.

Yeah, I saw that one a while back.
The animal rights people would have a field day with that one, things were very different back then.
I sometimes wonder if society would progress faster if 'Ealth and Safety" were sent off to some uninhabited island somewhere to go enforce their rules there.

Huh, sounds like the exact opposite of the video game Bioshock. The scientists go live in an under sea city underneath a small island so that they arent bothered by others.
