This strikes me as a primitive spark detector - the darling of 1970s particle physics. See how the alphas really get it going, and how the detector events create EMI, as sparks do.
It is wrong to call it a GM tube, because it is not a gas amplification device working in the Geiger-Müller region.

They may think they are filling it with butane, but they are sadly mistaken. You can't pour a gas into a can and hope it stays there while you stick some plastic over the thing.

Well unless you pull a vacuum and backfill the can with neon, it ain't gonna work!
That's just another one of those "make mountain dew glow" videos.
The video says fill the canister with butane. Will this work?
Helium butane mixtures had a brief vogue as a GM counting gas in the 1960s, and both butane and propane have been used in proportional counting, usually mixed with a Noble gas.
I didn't notice the detail about the fill gas, Adam, until I read your post.
Hydrocarbons, often ethanol, were used as quench gas in first generation GM tubes, which typically operated at 1.2 kV or so, and had a limited life span until the quench gas was used up. The introduction of halogen quench agents - usually Br - reduced the operating voltage to ~350V - 600V in second generation GM tubes, which also had a longer operating life. Most readily available tubes are of this second type.

I wouldn't waste your time on this.
As for finding a tube, I wonder if you could send LND an international money order. Get a mica window tube; although it is more expensive it is far more useful.
