Hello!
I am looking for a paper on the said topic that has detailed numbers, charts, and figures on how the researchers built the device, speeds of tape, x-rays emitted, etc. I am not looking for a paper with complicated advanced math. A paper that explains how they did it, and clear data would be good. I am trying to build one for myself and perhaps experiment on the basic idea.
This is the best example I could find, but it doesn't have much data on building details or theory. I am pleased that it used english for most of the data, and not obscure theories that a well read hobbiest would not know.

I've read the paper by UCLA guys in 2008. Their vacuum level was 1 micron. But I attest that the demonstration is very tolerant of variations in speed and vacuum. 33 microns is enough vacuum to get x-rays easily detectable by Geiger counter outside a plastic bell jar. In that experiment, the free end of Scotch tape was started on the shaft of a DC gearhead motor inside the vacuum.

I have seen a video of this phenomenon being experimented with by what i believe was some university. Apparently they used 150 microns, and there was plenty of radiation to be observed through a thick bell jar by a geiger counter.
I am pretty amazed that triboluminescence can be used to make x-rays that can take such a clear x-ray photograph. A very cool phenomenon. I wonder if it will ever be utilized for a practical device.

If I understand that paper correctly;
The vacuum is needed for dielectric insulation. The tape can be rewound and reused. It makes plenty of x-rays, including high energy ones. It can take radiographs.
So we have a relatively high intensity xray generator that can be reused... and run off a D battery.

Hi!
From what I've read, 150 micron is the hoghest preasure that has been used for the scotch tape idea. I also know that the x-rays are emited in peaks. What I would want is to see if the 150 micron outputed less x-rays than the 1 micron. It would be expected right? Also, does the speed of the tape affect production?
If I had a simple graph from each of the said experements, we could easily see if it is a factor. Also, I was thinking of using a glass canning jar instead. Does anyone know the max vacuum they can stand?
