I pulled an 18v 25watt ssps out of an old printer, I wanted to use it to power my plasma speaker which would draw more then 25 watts. I hooked everything up and switched on the power, the power supply took a second to turn on, but when it did an arc started. I let it run for a sec turned everything off and did a heat check, nothing was hot so i fired it up and drew about 1 1/2 long arc with now problems. My question is the power supply makes a buzzing sound when under a load , and the sound gets louder as i draw out the arc. Is there any way to make the buzz quieter or stop it all together?

I was looking at the on board filter cap. its only rated at 68uf at 400v, if i switched it out for more capacitance would it help? This is just an ASSumption but wouldn't unstable oscillations cause a considerable amount of heat.

P.S the arc is silent
Ive had this problem with stepper motor PS's, you can try to add more capacitence at the load end.
