Hi all.
Soooo.. I acquired a half working Sony Ericsson W595. It turned on but had no screen, due to immersion. Took phone apart and the screen boards were covered in green crud.
Got my solution of acetic acid, hydrogen peroxide and salt. Approx. 4 parts clear malt vinegar, 1 part 9% peroxide and a tiny pinch of salt. Heated in microwave to about 50C and immersed board with plastics flipped up for 10 minutes.
Then thoroughly rinsed and dried 60C for 1/2 hour.
Put back together, 100% working (!) No screen glitches at all, apart from the damage where I'd dismantled it to get to the liquid. Its still useable, with only a few small dull spots where the diffuser is scuffed.
As it has an M2 reader able to take an 8GB card, my thought is to use it as a projector. Either find a fisheye lens and make a sphere projector (which would be neat) or use a spare slide projector and make a cheapo video projector with it.
There is plenty of contrast on this thing.
Sound feasible? as the phone has the dreaded "No Signal" fault.. According to it does MP4, M4V and all music formats. With a bit of kludgery I should be able to reverse and invert the screen so that the image is then correctly displayed when projected and then hook up an amplifier so it has 5.1ch sound.
The screen in these is pretty high resolution for a low end phone, 320*240 wide. Rumour has it that these all use the same controller, possibly the same firmware as well so driving it from a uC ought to be doable.
