The water just needs to be clean in a clean container. It will not boil either at normal temperature which can be extremely dangerous. I have heated water in the microwave that did not boil until I dropped something in it later.
If you have a glass of carbonated liquid and you see some bubbles coming from points in the glass then those are the nucleation sites where the boiling/freezing starts first. The more bubbles you get the dirtier your glass is.
If you want to try the freezing trick then the size of the particles that will act as an effective nucleation site will decrease with temperature. Since your container never will be completely clean there will be some temperature where it will freeze. So take it out of the freezer before it gets too cold.

Yes, i too Have done the explosive boiling experiment, scary some people have been sent to the ER by being injured this way.

Heh, the water freeze is a neat trick, i learned it about 6 years ago in 6th grade science class, our teacher did it with a water bottle and same deal, hit it hard and it starts to freeze instantly. Always a fun trick to try =) Very cool though
