I think this is a far more serious issue than a few bricked batteries, it wouldn't take much for someone with malicious intent to write a virus that messes up the charge profile of the cells then distributes it to every infectable machine at say an airport via the poisoned access point vector.
Ways to tell:- See if the serial number of the pack matches the one on the underside, if not then it might be infected. Another way would be to see if the pack has suddenly stopped charging with no warning having been working fine before.
