Seems like google has indexed the popsci and popmech archives. I've been looking at some of the projects, and they are really neat. What happened to DIY??? The new popsci magazines rarely have DIY projects, and when they do they are crap. I want the old magazines back...

Homer L Davidson wrote a lot of articles like that 50 years ago. Why?
Because, with a bit of shopwork, a camera, (no .jpg in those days ) and a short text he could get about $100 .
With the net today, you would really have to work hard to see that kind of money for a short photo piece. And once its out, you have lost it forever.
When the author signed his cheque back then , he sold all the rights to the magazine.
If you get a good look at the last 90 or so years of the popular electronics and radio press, there are thousands of such articles. Many paid good money to the writers.
So the question is, how to turn your ideas into cash while building a following of subscribers who will want more. That diode test gadget is known as a 'weekender', something a home builder would put together on a weekend and probably would never use..
