Hi all.

I am looking into using solder balls as a cheaper alternative than trying to deposit solder paste for SMD assembly.

Would a very narrow tube such a syringe needle ground off until flat with a vacuum mechanism work?

Reason is that solder paste is both heinously expensive and has a very well defined use by date after which it deteriorates and stops flowing correctly.

Either that or a way to MAKE solder paste from scratch, it sounds relatively simple.

Really? What sort of paste are you buying? If you keep it capped and in the fridge it will last well beyond the date on the tube.

These are cheap, but note it is not the same paste used for production.
Ships in 3 to 8 weeks sometimes.

These must be kept refrigerated for the 1 year shelf life, or they only last 4 to 6 months at room temperature.
Ships via next day courier service.

Cool, thanks.
Presumably freezing it is a bad idea right?
