So I wanted to wind another flyback transformer secondary but these time apply what I have learned through trial and error. I had some small gauge wire from a fan from a microwave (IDK what the gauge is). I wound about ~65 turns at about 10 layers, ~600 turns. I used about 4 turns of wax paper per layer to insulate and dipped it in paraffin wax several times. No corona is visible and the transformer doesn’t seem to be hissing. I am powering it with my plasma speaker driver because as of the moment my ZVS flyback driver is dead :( (parts are on their way), it’s being powered at 30v and draws around ~7 amps. Here’s some pics and a short video that will explain everything :D

heres a link to the video---> Link2

sorry double post- it only lets me upload one pic at a time. I was having trouble but I fixed them now.

I found that if I took a piece of wax paper and folded it in half and half again, nothing fancy, just four layers or wax paper it could insulate two electrodes for about 2 sec before being eaten through by corona at max transformer output. I used 4 turns inside the transformer just out of laziness so it should withstand a lot of excess voltage

I wound another secondary but this time for a slightly larger core. I had ~80 turns per layer at 11 layers= ~880 turns. I used wax paper just like before and dipped it in wax. I used one primary turn connected to my plasma speaker flyback driver, at 30v drawing ~7.8 amps I drew 4-1/2 inch arcs. I was holding one of those red HV wires that come with flybacks and it arced through the insulation and gave me a small RF burn. Shortly after playing around with it, it arced over. I used to thin of a strip of wax paper on one layer which later arced over to another layer, so the wax paper and paraffin hold up just fine, there was no visible outer corona. Could someone find the max insulative properties of wax paper coated lightly in paraffin? I would appreciate that.

-Many thanks

Use overhead projection sheets, BoPET. Be more careful with your posting instances too. The wax paper wont do much good to you when characterized by other people.

I cant pot over heads in wax though they melt, well at least shrivel. Yeah, sorry about all the posts I have no idea, it wouldn't start a new thread if i had pictures to upload and stuff like that, but i fixed it. Also what do you mean by "The wax paper wont do much good to you when characterized by other people." ?

Other people wont have the same material you have, others wont test it in the same way that you will use it, youll have to characterize it yourself.

Also, you can use the edit button to add info after you have added a post to an existing thread.

Just remember the site rules or youll get tagged by an admin.

Maybe you should look into using liquid electrical tape to coat your film.
