OK, it's an odd title. I want to insulate my loft. The best insulators are covered with a layer of metal foil to block absorption and radiation of IR. Unfortunately, my TV antenna is in the loft and the foil will stop the signal getting through. I can't just strip the foil off part of the insulation because there's an inspection after it's installed and, anyway, I don't want to spoil the insulation value more than I can help.
I'm sure that I have read that microwaves (and TV signals are pretty close to µwaves) can make their way through slits rather well.
Does anyone know if I can slit the foil in such a way that it lets a significant part of the TV signal through while still blocking most of the IR?

I though about putting the antenna outside but it's much easier to get to the loft (by going up the stairs) than to get to the roof. It's probably Plan B but I don't want to abandon Plan A just yet.

Despite the theory of metal sheets blocking radio waves, I suspect that the attenuation may be less than expected! Get a sheet of the intended insulation, put it in line with your aerial/antenna in roughly it's expected final position and try! If you are in a weak signal area you may have problems, otherwise I suspect you may not notice the signal loss.
(The factory I work in has a double skin of steel yet tv, radio and cellphones work, even though they shouldn't) (The factory is only about 5 miles line-of-sight from a 1 MW per TV channel and 250 kW per FM Radio channel transmitter though )

You wait ages for a reply then two come along at once! Forty, If I knew how to do that I could probably work out how to slit it to let the RF through. Sulaiman, I think that two layers of foam, each with two layers of foil will not leave a lot of signal, but I will try it anyway.
