After buying a few halogen transformers, this time I bought a 250W one, and it's driving the flyback great, at first the arc was very small, but hot, as I was using thin gauge wire, and like 8 turns, it was melting, so I used much higher gauge wire, and 3 turns this time, and it's working great!

I made a video of it in action, although really compared to the video, it looks alot better, and it's looks as if it stretching farther, anyway here is the video.

So now I'm on the prowl for a bigger flyback that can fit thicker wire in the primary, so then more power will go in :)

Run time is limited with the as the wire heats up very fast, as it's thin, and only 3 turns.

That's a pretty good arc for such a simple setup.

Maybe try making a Jacob's ladder with it?

Yes I will make a Jacobs ladder with it, I'm trying to find suitable wire.

I'm trying to get thicker wire on the flyback to stop it melting, but it's not fitting.

If I put two flybacks in series, will the voltage be boosted?

It will, depending on several factors, but you risk destroying the second flyback due to overvoltage. The insulation might fail, but it might work under oil. Also, ideally you'd want another halogen Xformer for the primary of the second flyback.

Maybe try it and see, but, obviously, take suitable precautions. wiring the primaries in parallel, with more turns on each primary is where I'd start.

Sorry about this, didn't mean to do it.

Anyway just put two flybacks in series, and the voltage was increased but not but a large amount.

As I said, ideally you'll need two halogen transformers. Twice the power in = twice the power out, as long as it doesn't blow something.

You'll get a bit more voltage out using one, due to less resistance in the primary, etc.

Actually I'm surprised, the halogen xformer hasn't shorter once, yet...

I'm going to make a ionocraft and a ion motor.

If you keep double posting/repeat posting, the 'powers that be' will ban you from posting, (just a word of advice). I suggest you read the site rules.

I'm sure there are many people who can help you with a Seversky lifter (ionocraft), so don't get yourself banned.
