Hi all.
Just noticed something interesting about the Sandisk 512MB microSDs.
Seems that the label (as on some other cards) covers the tiny pads which presumably were left from manufacturing and testing them.
The newer 2GB cards also have these but they are covered with paint presumably to stop tampering.
If I am not mistaken then these pads actually connect directly to the onboard Flash chip, so in principle they could be used to not only recover data from dead cards but also to avoid the use of hard to solder TQFP chips for hardware hacking purposes.
If so, then the only tools needed would be a fine soldering iron, some sort of adapter and a suitable host.
Maybe I have uncovered the dirty secret of FrankenFlash cards here, which are made those naughty people in a certain place which shall not be named to imitate expensive 16 and 32GB cards with 2GB cheap ones.

Directly interfacing with NAND chips isn't something I'd want to do, that stuff is so unreliable nowadays ... just use the SDIO and let the controller worry about it.
