Hi all.
I finally got my £5 car boot sale clamp meter back off the lady who used it to see if her car problems were battery related. Needless to say it doesen't work, it appears that it was defective to begin with.
Any ideas? the meter movement seems free moving and goes to zero fine but doesen't read anything. Its a Tong-Test, made by Compton parkinson in the UK. Range is 0 to 50A.
Thanks in advance, -A

If it is a genuine Tong-Test, it is a magnetic deflection meter. Carefully get a magnet and try it in the jaws.
Then probe the range plug-in with the magnet.
They are simple AC/DC instruments. If it is he type I described, the meter head may be damaged.
