Seems that I may need a licence to own any device that has the potential to emit X-rays.
Is anyone else aware of this?

The government worries way too much about individuals, way too little about businesses.

'Any person who makes or possesses a radioactive device or material with the
intention that it is to be used in the course of, or in connection with, the carrying
out of an act of terrorism, or for the purposes of terrorism is now guilty of an
offence. An offence is also committed if it is the intention of the accused to make
the device or material available to be used in such a way.'

If you read it fully, it looks like, as long as you don't use a fusor for terrorist activities, you should be ok.

(unless I missed something)

EDIT: Looks like the original post I was replying to has now been changed.

In reply to the revised post, if the legislation is based on UK law, you only need a licence if 'they' decide you are using it in connection with 'work'.

UK law on this subject was discussed in some detail here recently.

I think it was more an issue of posting something without fully analysing the wording.. still it does suggest a potential issue if you are collecting parts for a fusor and someone phones up reporting that suspicious looking object in your car.

This can get nasty if like many you salvage parts from scrap yards, scrapped equipment left out for the rubbish etc as previously you could only be cautioned for petty theft if at all.

Recall this is how David Hahn got caught out, not from any of the other stuff but acting suspiciously near some cars.

These days just mentioning that you are interested in radiation monitoring gets raised eyebrows.

I have had this happen "WTF do you have a Geiger counter for, you must be up to something"... to which I replied "Yes, being prepared".. That shut them up smile Was about two weeks after that unfortunate nuclear accident.

In case anyone wonders, I only found the page in question when trying to locate a news article because some Id10T phoned in a hoax at one of the schools this morning.
