I stumbled upon this:
It's cheap, they have a lot of them in stock, it's made to hold oil, and it's about the right size for a dental X-ray transformer or similar item. The ports could be used for terminals or oil filling, and a sheet of lexan or other material could be used for a top cover.

This is very nice, and once I get some spare cash I'm probably going to get some. I still have 3 xrt's that still need an oily home, my bookshelf just doesn't seem to be doing it for them...

I ordered a few of these and they arrived today. The fit & finish quality is not all that great, but the dental xray transformer I had sitting around now has a suitable home. I need to mount it securely, make some terminals and a top cover and then fill this up with oil before I can try it out, but I think it'll work nicely.
