Hello everyone,
A little bit back I built a plasma speaker (with a lot of help from the people over at all about circuits) and did a science fair project on it, in which I varied the ultrasonic base frequency and measured the maximum distance at which it would arc, I wanted to do further testing involving the duty cycle and create a carpet plot but ran out if time.

Heres a youtube video of it in operation Link2

I attached the zipped word and excel document with the writeup (the three blank pages in the word doc are where the three pages of excel data and graphs go), please let me know that you think!

If you want more pics just let me know smile

I read the "Optimization of a plasma speaker" which was a pretty thourough explanation of what you did (pg 10-13 were blank?)
I had similar results when I put a pot in place of R2 and found that the optimum value differed between my two flybacks. So well done!

Thanks!
And I forgot to mention, the three blank pages are where the excel data went... I modified the original post.

Most flybacks will probably have different saturation points, given the different permeability's and number of windings and all of the other uncontrollable variables involved with building something.

Nice job!

And kudos for the CCR, it seems a lot of people who tackle these projects end up playing weird/annoying techno or pop ... Maybe nice for them, but I can't stand it!

Personally one of my favorite (and topical) demo songs for mad-scientist experiments is Delia Derbyshire's doctor who theme... hehe

Thanks!
yea, the mgmt just didn't sound right for some reason...
I blame apple.
And I'm probably bout to start something, but I must say that I find that show overly boring...
