I thought I might as well start sharing my project, and progress as I go.
* Capacitor Bank: 450V 9600uF for roughly 980J of power (May hook it for 900V, not sure)
* 800V 350A Stud Diode * 1200V 650A SCR (I want a STUD)
So. The scope of my project, I wanted to make a Rifle based ETG. That way I have a barrel which will give the projectile enough time to accelerate. In the past, I did PVC pipe. 12 inches long. I manage to shoot a flash capacitor through the bottom of a soda can. The next shot exploded the PVC plastic adapter. Due to this, I moved to solid steel tubing. This is 4mm thick steel pipe, with a threaded endcap. Weakest point, the threads. 1KJ should be fine for this system. JUST IN CASE it explodes, I understand metal is lethal at high speeds. I am placing the endcap inside a 2" diameter 4mm thick steel tube. The side facing me, the gun holder, will have a 1/2" steel plate welded to the pipe. So, my PVC system had a lot of leaks. This is air tight. It should shoot a LOT better.
Now. Why am I making an ETG? Obviously not to do harm to life (people..animals..etc). The reason I'm making an ETG is for three things.
1) To have it as a proof of concept 2) To present it to my electrical teacher, Showing how you can make a gun with capacitors and foil (points to number 1) 3) To mess around with, meaning to shoot it at targets, just like someone does with a spud gun.
I understand the dangers of weapons, and rules against making such things. I am one who takes saftey as a priority, and design things so when stuff goes wrong, I'm safe. I also tend to enjoy putting way too much money into looks. I'm even buying a full metal 1:1 scale replica of a handgun for a handle =)
PICTURES!
* Barrel with capacitors
* Muzzle for looks (Sound dampening too)
* Protection pipe to shield myself in case of explosion
* Test design front view
* Cad design (The stock sucks, I know, I'm still working on it
Let me know what you think! Will update as things are made.

Ah. Weird they block sites probably I guess. Maybe at home you can view it fine hopefully.
Well, I did some tests today and it failed. I was able to blow the projectile out of the barrel at a slow rate with little breath, or fast with lots of breath. When i did 400J, nothing came out. So...I think the issue was the wire. I made this quick with what i had, 20awg wire. Before you go OMG REALLY?! ON 1KJ?!?!?!?! Yeah. I know. But it last 3 shots, and the contacts (touching the foil) was all gone.
I'm hoping the gun sucked DUE to the contacts evaporating. And that it works better when i get 12awg. Hopefully!!!

OOooooo! Killa-x nice work! I need one of these, I even have an pellet rifle plastic grip-stock from a dead weapon. I will repurpose it for this device.
EDIT: I could be persuaded to part with 8 of my 50RIA60 (600V) SCR's. not sure if they meet your specs though.

the coil is around the iron barrel ?!!
Its an ETG. Electrothermal, shoots with plasma by evaporating foil with high capacitance.
Well I need to buy a new barrel because a weld seem down the inside of the barrel is causing issues. I got something in mind but no idea if regular plumbing parts will fit on conduit...The thick wall threaded ones
