Hi all.
Any ideas why my Nokia brick comes up with "SIM card registration failed" if there is a microSD in the slot?

I tried it with a known good SIM and three different microSD cards formatted in the phone.
And it doesen't always do this immediately, sometimes it works for hours then fails with no warning.

I am loathe to get rid of this phone as it does things that a new smart phone doesen't, like take infrared images.
Also the battery life is far better than most phones.

Thanks, -A

While I'm not experienced with that particular phone, these sorts of problems are frequently mechanical in nature. Dirty, bent, or broken contacts, cracked ribbon cables or solder joints. You might see if poking or prodding can repro the fault on command during a time when it's working. Freeze spray (or a can of air duster held upside down) can be a handy tool for tracking intermittent faults too.

I was surprise when I bought a new phone recently to see that it had to use 1.8v/3.3v SIM cards, and not the 3.3V/5v that my old SIM was. I read this though after repeated failures with my old SIM, which worked in there for hours, before failing with a "SIM not found" message. You might check this compatibility issue, even though it is the other way round.

Reckon this also applies to microSDs?
