should be argon, maybe xenon or nitrogen... basically any inert gas
what you can do is expose it to light at certain wavelengths (common laser diodes, with attenuation) and compare with absorption spectrum of those inert gases to see where absorption takes place
I think it might be a mix though, maybe with a quenching agent to avoid avalanche if those are used in sensible equipments
