Easy PLL?

This chip seems like a fantastic, and easy way to make a resonant tank circuit...Which means if possible, it could be used to run just about anything that requires resonance without all the pain of PLL...

One thing I'm wondering though, is if it would be possible to get rid of the optoisolator and use something else? Or, just use a high value resistor if you're going to be outputting some high power stuff? ORRR, use a current transformer or something similar to get the pulses needed...

What are your thoughts on this magnificent chip?

This does not use PLL, it's just a low side and high side driver that switches at ZVS.
I would rather have ZCS.

You might be able to replace the optocoupler with a hall effect sensor.

I think grenadier experimented with a similar chip, but I don't remember any positive results.

If you don't want the "pain of PLL" then use a different topology.

I never said I wasn't going to do PLL, I was just looking into this idea, that's all. I saw the chip, and thought because it was resonant (I.E. LC converter) that maybe it could be possibly used for a variety of things other than a power supply that requires a tank circuit, like SSTC or induction heaters, or flyback transformers.

And I'm the one who gave grenadier the chip. He's been too busy to do anything with it. (yes, I know him in person.)

I still want to do the PLL induction heater, yes, but I was just curious at what this IC could do. cheesey
