They used SOP packages for the traces, but they look the same as SOIC.

Well that assembly looks wider than a DIP...

On a dip8 the 4 corner pins form a square.
High quality adapters usually have to so8 mounted 90degrees to the dip8 footprint. this will provide enough area for proper pad dimensions. as will as clearance for soldering.

And if you want an so8 to dip8 carrier, you will need to find good quality turned pin headers and machined pin sockets.

Square pins are too big to go into standard sockets and will damage them.

I made some SOIC to DIP adapters a few years back, I can find the layout if anyone needs them. It only takes a few minutes to whip up a sheet of them in KiCad.

You can just put them on a zip file and upload them here so everyone can use them, but if you want it to be private my email is **link**

great is misspelled on purpose. xD

Well.. PCB's aside, a while ago Grenadier gave me an idea which I found working half decent:
more or less soldering jumpers from the DIP connectors to the pins of the SMD.

IIRC they make actual SMD > DIP adapters that are pressfit.. but I forgot what company does those. but for something quick and cheap.. this isn't too bad.

I was just looking and realized the adapters I made are not DIP either, but just rows of pads I can solder wires to or stick in a breadboard. The problem is that the SOIC is too wide to fit between the DIP pads, you end up with several pins touching some of the DIP pins. I could make some that put SOIC on a wide (.600) DIP layout though. Grab a copy of KiCAD (free) and have a go with it, it's super easy to make custom adapters, I use it for all of my PCBs.
