In designing the PWM circuitry for a plasma speaker I started wondering about the best way to control the dead time and modulate the square wave in accordance to the audio signal as accurately as possible. I've seen two separate designs that allow for a variable dead time with an audio input. One configuration connects the output control to Vref and then this si connected via a variable resistor to an error amplifier. The other simply connects the dead time control via a variable resistor to the positive voltage. My question is, if I run the audio signal into an error amplifier while controlling the dead time via the other error amplifier will it alter the modulation of the audio signal?

Try it and find out, experimenting is half the fun. Build it on perfboard or even build the power stage and then breadboard the TL494 part and experiment away.

Yeah Ill do that, I really just got kinda lazy and already soldered it to some perf board. I'll reply with any observations after I'm done if anyone ever cares to reference this thread.
