A company was throwing away what looked like transformers, when i asked why, they told me the parts were obsolete. It looks like the one i grabbed was never used. The company primarily manufactures equipment to measure various things on the power grid. There was a part # on the top "PIC T9118 19902". I was not able to find anything using google.
There is a terminal block with 4 wires attached to one side. I assume 2 wires are input, and 2 wires are output. Using the multimeter... Resistance between 1 and 2 is: 1.9 ohms Resistance between 1 and 3 is: 3.3 ohms Resistance between 1 and 4 is: 3.8 ohms
Resistance between 2 and 3 is: 1.3 ohms Resistance between 2 and 4 is: 1.5 ohms
Resistance between 3 and 4 is: 0.4 ohms
Is this just some giant inductor xD ? If so, what are the possible uses for an inductor this large?

I think it's some kind of instrument transformer. Maybe an autotransformer to combine the outputs of three CTs in some special ratio. I've seen similar things used in power line protection systems. They tend to use voltages around 110V AC, so I guess the windings will be rated for that kind of voltage.
On the bright side, looks like the core comes apart easily.

That is a nice looking core .
Anyway, just input relatively low voltage AC into one of the windings and read the voltage on the others. Im sure the core could handle 1kw without any trouble, but as for the rated power for the transformer altogether, who knows...
