I was thinking..... If I mount that beast on a trailer, drive it with a bank of about 3000 MOSFET's, and power it with 500 car batteries in series/parallel, then I could have a portable 60Hz power plant for when my power from the Grid goes out!

Well in seriousness, you can drive mosfets at 60Hz, it's done in power inverters, although normally the transformer is high frequency and a mosfet bridge is used to produce a 60Hz square wave with dead time to simulate the RMS of a sine wave from the DC rail. True sine inverters PWM a high frequency square wave at 60Hz and then filter out the carrier. So yeah, it could be done, although it would be ridiculous to do so with such a beast of a transformer.
