I just upgraded my HID spotlight by jamming in a xenon flash tube beside the HID bulb. I used a ZVS flyback driver and a homemade flyback transformer to give me about 200V to charge the capacitors. Is it possible if I connect lots of high capacity caps in parallel and make the flash lamp explode?
also can regular HID bulbs be used as a flah lamp since its filled with xenon gas anyways?

+1 on the loud bit. 25+ photoflash caps in parallel into one of said disposible camera flash tubes = prretty loud. So somewhere between 1x and 25x 'nominal' there was a failure.

However you might try to drive the HID, I would strongly advise against doing anything that would make the HID go boom. It contains mercury along with who knows what other stuff that you should not expose yourself to.

The HID bulbs are very different than Xenon flash bulbs. Much higher gas pressure, much smaller electrodes. They are likely to fail much more violently if you don't vaporize the electrodes on the first shot. Do not experiment with HID lamps unless you know what you're doing.

+1 on boom one time i got bored and hooked it up directly to mains when i triggered it, it gblinded me nearly with the brightness then later i got bored and did it again and it blew up :3
