This is very early days (Sorry it's a bit shaky will try and get a better video listed at some point) At the moment I'm just trying to get the look/feel right and prove the concept. The general idea is that the Android tablet will connect directly via Bluetooth to the firing box for simple short range (e.g. stage pyro) jobs, or via a master box which will split out to remote firing boxes via either cables or higher range wireless links (not Bluetooth). It will have feedback of igniter state etc. If the tablet moves out of Bluetooth range then the whole system will Disarm until it's re-connected and re-armed. Another feature will be an additional Pass-code to the Bluetooth one (so that even if someone manages to connect to the Bluetooth module they won't be able to do much with it). BTW please don't post the video link on any other websites/forums without checking with me first.

Very Nice!
I had started a wireless unit last fall to get some feedback at a shooting event here in Texas, but since I found out that a schedule conflict prevented me from attending I never finished it.
Note on your design: One concern I would have is that many phones may try to connect out of curiosity, accident, or maliciously (if they knew which is unlikely) and while your system should keep them out would it affect the response time or reliability?
Mine was based on WiFi, using an Arduino with a network shield and a wifi router. This would allow a single wireless link to a then wired network of boxes. Security would be easy even if the WPA was cracked due to the non-standard networking protocols that the system uses on top of a fresh set of code uploaded before a shoot. Also, should wireless not be functioning due to interference or security precautions a single Ethernet cable can go to the router which then will act as a switch to other boxes, a huge step up from the thick wire and mess of several 50 pin connector cables I've used in shows before. The head unit would be a laptop or other wireless capable device. I have used the same setup for non pyrotechnic purposes as the control system for my underwater ROV.
I'm looking forward to keep an eye on this, keep up the good work!

That is something to be investigated. I won't be giving the Bluetooth module the ID "Martins Pyro box" and I'm going to take a test unit to some places with high numbers of mobile phone/WiFi access points etc. to check throughput/connection reliability etc. IME Bluetooth is fairly robust.

Mine was based on WiFi,
I've considered WiFi and it is still an option with only fairly basic software/hardware changes needed but Bluetooth is easier to get started with to check the basics of the system out. The beauty of using an Android device as a front end is you can chose it to suit your budget from Sub £100 device up-to a £300+ device with 10" screen. The idea is to make the hardware a fairly "fixed" design so as much as possible upgrades and customisations are purely a software/firmware job.
