I recently found an old 2.4KW (3.0KVA) Merlin Gerin Pulsar CSX UPS in my university basement. I removed the (obviously dead) 12V 7Ah (x10) in attempt to get it back to life. The problem is that the UPS doesn't respond to mains power (no led turns on) but the fuses are OK. I hear a relay switching when i power it up but no signs of life (this both with and without the batteries). The guy that was disposing of it told me that it was working the last time used, then it rest more that 10 years in the basement. Even worse, the inlet/outlet cable was removed (so i was not able to identify correctly the inlet and outlet of this thing, but i suppose that the inlet is the one connected to the main(s) power switch. Both cables go to two toroidal transformers on a board, one through a mains switch, the other dyrectly. Are there any chances to get it back to work or it is best to salvage some parts (like the sinewave inverter, filter inductors) and dispose of the rest?

If it could work the batteries would cost approximately 140Euros, but i don't know it it is convinient (i don't need to UPSize my home)

This is the kind of stuff you'll wish you hadn't scrapped,
Many ups will not power up the battery chasrger without a battery
or the inverter with no ac applied!
Apply ac, measure battery charging current (if any)
power up the load then remove the mains input for the inverter to run.
If you check all of the power transistors for drain-source (or collector-emitter) short-circuit and find none then it's probably just a case of replacing the small electrolytic capacitors.
Good luck...

Ok, i will try to find some working batteries, since the ones in the UPS just behaved like an open-circuit :D

After this first test I will perform the rest of the tests, including checking the power switching devices.

I have to find 10 7Ah 12V batteries (even used ones, just to see if the unit powers up)
