Today i received my 4 GU-50 tubes. As always, i checked the datasheet for the pinout. I cannot understand it, though! Alright, so it says pin 2 is grid1, pin 3 is grid2, and pin 5 is grid3. But then, pin 7 is titled 'screen'. I looked in the tube at where pin 7 went, and it is connected to a metal plate that is under the plate and grids and cathode, which i cannot tell if it is connected to a grid. Which pin is what?
It is weird having a tube with a metal piece on the top that is not the anode, that really threw me off
The role of the internal screening shield is to prevent interaction between the leads to the various valve elements which would otherwise represent a path that could not be wholly controlled by changes in the control grid voltage.
In the absence of other information, I would connect the internal shield on pin 7 directly to Earth, and the suppressor grid on pin 5 directly to the cathode on pin 1.
