Hello,
Im looking for some good sites on DRSSTC design other than Steve Wards site, wiki, or kaizer.

Looking for info on everything, design, tuning, build, etc...

Thanks

why don't you build one, take a chip like the tl494 and osculate it around 100khz, the interrupt that with a 555. thats about as simple as it gets! wink but you are probably gonna have issues with the igbt getting slammed into the peak alas and the transistors will explode, not sure if that will happen but just a theory mistrust

That might work for a small SSTC, although you will have to mess around alot to get any good results..

But DRSSTC, forget it. you better use some form of feedback, and a way to sync the interrupt with your drive input, since DRSSTC relies on soft switching. hard switching several hundred amps is usually very harsh on the IGBT. (so yes. boom)

also, Im not sure, but I doubt you can synchronize the oscillator and the interrupter just using a TL494 and a 555 (I could be wrong on that). such a circuit will require additional parts such as a J/K flip flop (yet again for that soft switching).
Steve has this concept on his site, but instead of an oscillator driving it, he uses feedback from the bridge via a current transformer. and a pair of schmitt triggers to make it into a usable logic input. (invert and have positive output, then the second to uninvert it).

Heres Steve's site. it has VERY valuable information on DRSSTC:

Here is one of his pages, Id read this first:

EDIT: almost forgot.. THIS SITE!
there are many people here who have built DRSSTC and I think you will find a thread about it here and there. (check project/tesla coil section)

Thanks, i am already familiar with Steves site unfortunately if you look near the bottom of the page.. He never finished it. And aside from a few parts being shipped I already have everything needed for a DR. What I am looking for is some other sites providing information.

yes steve used the jk flip flop, but what if you interrupted the power going to the tl494? that way when it would start to oscillate at 0V? I think the sg3525 could maybe be synced up with the 555? I hate making schematics!
