Say you have a stack of two 6v batteries. Could you, tap into one of the cells, to get a 6v line, and still use the stack for another part of your circuit?

See it's not as simple as just tapping into one of the cells. Because current through one cell is more than the other, you begin to see one of the voltages failing more rapidly. Soon you loose your overall 12v.
