I've been squandering some stuff for awhile and amongst my scrap pile I have a pair of unused GL-860 transmitting tubes of WWII vintage. They were tested good when I bought 'em but that was years ago now and I've been itching to put them to use but the paranoid in me says otherwise.Just wondering if anyone else has had much luck with tubes this old.Thought they'd make for an awesome looking retro-VTTC but maybe they should remain as decorations in my "lab".?

If they tested good when you bought them they should work. The only thing that could go bad to them in storage is the vacuum going soft, and the tube you posted a picture of looks to have a good vacuum based on the appearance of the getter. I get old tubes surplus all the time, and the majority of them work fine. I used a very old 811a for my vttc and the tube outperformed a modern 811 a from china.
Those tubes would make a really cool vttc. Or a plasma tweeter as they are tetrodes if I remember correctly...
Hope you decide to build something cook with the tubes :)

Wow,thanks for the responses guys(didnt expect anything for replies with it being Christmas eve).Thank you Weston thats what I was mostly concerned with-low vacuum and outgassing within the tube.I dont have alot of experience with these things so I was a little worried.I'm going to take your word on it.:-D * Iamsmooth-Funny you should point out that thread,I kinda threw something in at the end of that one,but I actually used your advice to check for shorts the same day you posted it!Should have stressed the vacuum leak concern more in my previous post.Either way, thanks to both of you.Plasma tweeter would be cool, good idea.Merry Christmas.
