Nicko, are you sure you don't mean "My Perreaux killed them"
The 2SJ50/2SK135 are a complementary N/P pair of MOSFETs for linear use. They came out in the 70s, I think, using the first generation "lateral" MOSFET technology. They had lousy Rds(on), about 1 ohm, but were thermally stable and easy to drive. You could make a low distortion 100 watt audio amp with only about a dozen other components.
They are so rare now because Hitachi's marketing guys claimed they were short-circuit proof and needed no protection circuitry. This was completely untrue and so most of them have exploded.
You can still buy equivalents to rebuild your exploded vintage audio gear, under brands like Exicon and Magnatec.
